É absolutamente necessário que se entenda um mínimo de "potência" para não cometer o erro de dizer que esta máquina apenas trabalha com pilhas alcalinas, menos potentes que as acima. A qualidade de imagem em nada deixa a desejar e a rapidez do foco automático impressiona. Repleta de recursos que só devem ser bem usados por pessoas experientes em fotografia. Vale cada centavo e um pouco mais. Imprimam e encadernem o manual que vem em *.PDF; depois é só estudar! Abraços a todos.

  Surpresa....,8Osvaldo Cesar Rios em 22/07/2011 às 12:58Meus amigos, comprei uma GE X5 ontem, apesar de já ter tido nikon, panasonic, kodak e sony, fiquei surpreso com a qualidade da câmera... isso não quer dizer que ela seja perfeita, não, mas pra quem está procurando custo x benefício essa é a máquina. A qualidade das fotos são ótimas, claro que ressaltando que o operador tem que saber configurar e manusear, assim como qualquer outro equipamento eletrônico, se souberes como usufruir da melhor maneira dos seus recursos, melhor será a qualidade do resultado final. Não vou me prender em detalhes, já que a opinião em fóruns e sites é muito pessoal, mas não se preocupem em gastar R$ 450,00 nessa câmera, ela realmente cumpre o que promete para sua categoria. Sendo o mais imparcial possivel, creio que o ponto mais negativo da máquina seja realmente a alimentação através de pilhas AA, o que pode ser temporariamente resolvido com pilhas recarregáveis, mas mesmo assim, não supri as necessidades de um aficcionado por fotografias.... Espero ter ajudado. Abraços

As pessoas tem que entender que é uma câmera semi, e se quizerem uma profissional que comprem uma, vale a pena pelo custo as minhas aceitam pilhas recarregáveis, usei pilhas Philips 2300. Talvez as pessoas devessem pesquisar mais antes de comprar. A câmera tem muitas qualidades, além do preço. As pessoas querem uma câmera profissional pelo preço de uma semi? Comprem uma do Paraguai.

Consigo fazer fotos muito boas com ela, e não pretendo troca-la por um bom tempo (até adquirir mais experiência, pelo menos). E bom, ela aceita pilhas recarregáveis sim.

  Semi Pro e só isso....,6Daniel Yuki em 24/01/2011 às 15:12Adquiri uma X5 a pouco, ela realmente tem um custo beneficio favorável, porem ela fica só no semi profissional, não tem engate para outros tipos de flash ou lentes, e ela tem um problema que pode ser considerado grande, que é... ela só utiliza pilhas alcalinas e não aceita recarregáveis. Devido a esses fatos ela se tornou uma ótima câmera usual para a familia mas não para qualquer outro tipo de serviço ou trabalho.... fica a dica

The Bottom Line

Finding a large optical zoom lens (8X) in such a thin camera (0.7 inches in thickness) certainly made me notice the GE E1680W. In the sub-$200 price range, the E1680W has an above-average list of features.

Unfortunately, the E1680W's image quality is only average. The camera exhibited some softness in a variety of shooting situations, but it especially struggled in low-light conditions. If you want a beginner-level camera with a nice zoom lens to use for outdoor nature photos, the E1680W is well worth considering. For those who want to shoot mostly indoor flash photos, though, I'd look elsewhere.

Image Quality

With outdoor photos, the E1680W does a nice job for the most part. The camera doesn't suffer much from shutter lag when the exterior lighting is good, and colors are realistic and vibrant. You may notice some shutter lag when shooting at the maximum zoom setting, however.

The biggest problem when shooting in sunlight with this camera is you sometimes lose details in the shadows when shooting in areas of high contrast -- bright sunlight and shadows in the same frame.

With indoor photos, though, the E1680W struggles a bit. Flash photos are hit and miss in terms of quality, as you'll have some images that are washed out because the flash is too intense. To deal with these issue, you can back up a little bit from the subject, zoom in, and use the flash from a little ways away.

The colors aren't quite as realistic and vibrant in low light photos, either.

The biggest problem I noticed with the E1680W is its autofocus, which just isn't quite as sharp as it needs to be. If you want to shoot a lot of close-up photos with this camera, especially indoors, you'll probably be disappointed in the results about half the time.

For a camera in this price range, the overall image quality is just average.

Performance

Overall, the E1680W's response times are about average. The camera starts up pretty fast, and its shutter lag isn't bad most of the time. However, you'll find growing shutter lag and shot to shot delays when shooting at the maximum 8X zoom lens setting.

Finding an 8X optical zoom lens in a camera of this size and price range is a very nice feature, and the lens does a decent job.

The 3.0-inch LCD is a nice feature in a camera in this price range, too, and it is very bright and sharp. You can change the brightness level to any of 10 settings, giving you the option of increasing performance or conserving battery power.

As mentioned above, the camera's flash performance isn't as good as I'd like to see, and the camera tends to fire the flash in some photography situations where it probably shouldn't. You may find yourself wanting to manually turn off the flash from time to time.

The E1680W has a few special effect options. You can shoot in panoramic mode, and the E1680W will try to automatically create a panoramic photo for you. However, I had a difficult time keeping the camera steady enough to make this feature work properly, and I received quite a few error messages. Even with the error messages, the camera does record the panoramic photo at least. The other special effect options include "pencil sketch," fisheye, and black and white. The pencil effect is really fun to use.

Finally, the E1680W can shoot 720 HD video, and the movie quality is pretty good. There is no dedicated movie button, and you must select movie mode from the menus. The zoom lens is available when shooting movies, which is nice.

I like the look of the E1680W. It's a very thin camera, measuring only 0.7 inches in thickness, and it's a great size and shape for beginners looking for an easy-to-use camera. It also has an uncluttered interface, with very few buttons.

The E1680W has no mode dial, unfortunately, but you can work through the camera's on-screen menus to make your selections, and, like most GE cameras, the menu structure is easy to use. The camera's four-way button is a nice size and is comfortable to use, which is important with how often you probably will need to use the menus.

With this camera, you can shoot at five different resolutions at the 4:3 ratio. The only other aspect ratio you can use is 16:9, and only two resolutions are available at that ratio

A superzoom with an impressively low price

Pros:	Shots can be sharp and well exposed, very cheap

GE's history in the digital camera market is mostly aimed toward the low to mid end of compacts, making the new X5 something of a departure. With a 15x optical zoom and bulkier body, the new model will challenge the more established names in the superzoom end of spectrum.

GE X5 Review - Features

Having a 14MP sensor on camera with such a large optical zoom is something of a double edged sword, as the top end of the magnification will restrict the amount of light capable of hitting the sensor. This will increase visible noise, especially when there's a whole host of pixels fighting for the scraps of light. The focus is aided by an optical stabilizer, which makes the top end of the magnification easier to handle.

There's also a Panoramic mode, which doesn't quite ape Sony's sweep version but offers a guide to keeping the image consistent. The movie mode is 640 x 480, which is a fair step off of HD quality, and the main power source is four AAs, which affect both the balance and weight of the camera significantly. All the manual controls are present, and available on a large dial on top of the camera, as well blink and smile detection.

GE X5 Review - Design

The body isn't overtly chunky for a superzoom, with the right hand grip sitting just as proud as the lens when retracted. There's plenty of camera to hang onto, and the controls are well placed enough not to accidentally press any while holding on. Annoyingly the camera does have a tendency to freeze up if a card is inserted while the X5 is switched on, as the card port is by the batteries.

Most models will automatically switch off, and then power themselves on again once the flap is closed, but the X5 seemed unable to do this. A firmware update could probably solve this, as it turned into a minor inconvenience at the most. The screen was annoyingly low res and made it difficult to pick out detail across the frame, which made some of the menu text tricky to read.

GE X5 Review - Image Quality

Image quality had a few issues, mostly with focus and colour quality. The dual image stabilization seemed flawed on a number of occasions, not quite helping the focus out to enough of a degree, even on brighter days. When the stabilization does work in tandem with the focus the results are reasonably sharp, but annoyingly those occasions were few and far between.

White balance seemed to be edging toward far too much saturation more often than not, as colours took on a warm tint. This meant there was some loss of tone in a number of shots, especially those featuring the sky. The dynamic range favours the darker tones, losing detail in the lighter areas, but not to the extent that all detail is completely lost.

In fact those photos in which the stabilization worked were sharp, but the unpredictable nature of the exposure and white balance made it difficult to get consistent results. In low light noise was present throughout the ISO range, and once again the focal difficulties made framing shots a chore as constant adjustments were needed to attain sharpness. 

Verdict

The price and occassional impressive performance don't paper over the cracks of an ineffective stabilisation and unpredictable white balance
